This Pizza Bread or Pepperoni Roll recipe might be my favorite recipe yet to share with all my chickadees! I have more dessert recipes than other recipes. But I have been wanting to incorporate a variety of recipes and I am so glad I started with this one! It is so good I have already made this twice!

Why this Pizza Bread Recipe?

I was originally looking for a recipe that was similar to a recipe from an old friend of mine. Her mom use to make us what we called “pizza bread” on game days every once in a while when it was her turn. I believe that was just in middle school. In high school, we never stayed after school and ate together as a team. So it has been a hot minute since I have even had this original pizza bread. It is hard to explain but it was saucy and cheesy and just so delicious. I wish I could reach out to her mom and ask for the recipe but I just feel weird doing that. Needless to say, this recipe isn’t the same as her recipe. But it is very good! I think it is the homemade dough and the seasoned butter that just pulls this recipe together.

Level of Difficulty

Level of Difficulty: Intermediate. 5.5/10. 10 being easy. If you are not used to making homemade then this could be a new challenge for you. Making dough really isn’t that difficult but it just takes time for the dough to rise. If you are impatient like me this can be the longest part. I do not have the dough hook on my stand mixer. I have a 2nd hand sunbeam stand mixer from my mom. Before she gave it to me, it sat up in her cabinet for easily 10+ years but it still works just fine for me. So since I don’t have the dough hook, I just use the regular beaters and just watch it closely and stop the mixer before it gets caught up on itself all the way up. Rolling it all up before you bake can be tricky if you don’t have enough flour.

How To

You make your dough and let it sit for about an hour. Am I the only one who stresses about finding a warm enough place for the dough to rise? I don’t really know why it stresses me out probably because I hate waiting for the dough to rise. We just don’t keep our house in the winter extremely warm. About 70 degrees Fahrenheit is the highest you’ll see it but that is because of the blower it’s only set at about 68 degrees Fahrenheit. I just remembered to turn the oven light on and let it sit in there. I always forget about that though in the middle of baking/cooking.

Once your dough is ready to go you roll it out. I would definitely use flour to roll it out and Make sure you have extra flour when it’s time to roll it all up to bake as well. Once it is all rolled out you brush your beaten egg onto the dough. Then you place your pepperoni and cheese. Pretty simple right? Time to roll it up from one of the long sides. This is probably the most difficult part especially if you don’t have enough extra flour.

Bake + Bon Appetite

It can stick to the surface and you rather than itself. Once it is rolled up, I had to form it into a “c” shape for it to fit on my baking sheet. You can sprinkle some flour on your sheet and then place it on the sheet. Then melt your butter and your seasonings and brush on the buttery goodness! Bake for about 40 minutes at 375 degrees. Serve with your favorite marinara sauce! Bon appetite!
