I had been dreaming of having my own honeysuckle plant since I was little. Growing up at my parent’s house, there was a honeysuckle plant that vined up along the front trellis of the front porch. I loved seeing the flowers bloom and knowing it was a welcoming spot for all the Hummingbirds. So when we bought our house in the fall, I was determined by spring I would be purchasing my own honeysuckle plant.
Before I bought the honeysuckle plant, I wanted to make sure I had the trellis ready to go. So, I headed to Menards and my dream was almost crushed. Have you walked down the trellis aisle lately? I thought maybe $5. I was seeing $12, $20, and even $40. There was no way I would be paying that much for a plant to vine upon. I knew I could find a DIY solution. To Pinterest, I went!
The Perfect Trellis Plans
Eventually, I found these awesome plans from Hydrangea Tree House. So simple and easy to do, and CHEAP! It is made out of furring strips so it is very inexpensive. You can access the free plans by visiting her post here.
When I made this, I didn’t have a nail gun so I just used nails and a hammer. It worked just fine. I do have a nail gun now, and I just know it would have made this project even easier for sure. After I built it, I sprayed on some polyurethane to help make the wood last longer.
This was so easy to make and I love it still a year later! If you are looking for a trellis for your garden or plants this could be the right one for you! Can you believe how much the honeysuckle has grown over the last year? I can’t wait to see it bloom this year! Hopefully, I see lots of hummingbirds! I also put a water/sugar feeder right about this!
