Memory Lane

When I was making this it brought me right back to high school. My high school best friend and I would only get breakfast at school on biscuits & gravy days and breakfast pizza days! We would have two options for pizza, red or white sauce. It was an automatic white sauce for us every time. We would come in from the buses grab the food and rush to class. After we first started driving we would still make it, but then eventually I wouldn’t be there as early, so it stopped being such a recurring treat. I hadn’t really thought about those days until I was making this pizza over the weekend. It was a nice little trip down memory lane.

Breakfast Pizza Ingredients

For the pizza, you need 4 ingredients. Pizza dough in a refrigerated can, mozzarella cheese, ( or really any kind of cheese) Sausage, and sausage flavored gravy. I cooked my own sausage, but the original recipe calls for pre-cooked sausage crumbles. You set your oven according to your pizza dough package directions. If you are frying up your own sausage, fry the sausage up. Prepare your baking sheet with butter. You prebake your dough for 6 minutes. Make your sausage gravy according to the package. Then just layer everything on the dough. Dough, gravy, cheese, and sausage. Then just pop it back in the oven for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the crust is completely cooked.

In true Cassandra fashion, the store was out of pizza dough crust. We stopped in the morning I was making the pizza and it was snowing really hard. The roads were not the greatest either. So, I didn’t really want to push our luck going to another store. I just picked up some french bread dough in a refrigerated can. Worked and tasted the same.
