Greenhouse and Garden Upgrades

I have talked about it on Instagram my upgrades to my greenhouse and ways I start seeds. Here is a post to show you everything I have upgraded.

Last year a greenhouse was non-existent. It was my first year having my own garden so I didn’t have any tools. I knew that I wanted to try to start my own flowers and start my vegetables for the garden. So I just bought some seed trays with the lids which creates a mini greenhouse in itself. But you need lights. I had one light from Dustin’s grandpa and grandma they had me keep after their attempts of starting seeds indoors one year. One light and 3 seed trays just don’t mix.

Last year I started marigolds, snapdragons, zinnias, gazanias, tomatoes, bell pepper, spinach, and broccoli. I had a few successful zinnias and gazanias and all of my marigolds were successful. None of my vegetables were very strong and not successful.

My Old Seed Starting Station

Here it is in all her glory my one light for my three seed trays held up by vegetable cans! Haha. Some people might be embarrassed for me. But I am not. These are the tools I had and I made it work for the time being. Obviously, it didn’t really work out. But it’s all about trial and error. Would I have known this would work if I didn’t try it? It is okay to fail and try again. That is how you succeed. You can see I put too many seeds in for the snapdragons and didn’t pull any of them out. I gave up on that tray completely.

So from my experience, I knew that I really needed to step up my game. I just didn’t want to spend a fortune. I took my time browsing and looking up different lights on amazon. There really isn’t enough information out there to help you pick the right kind of lights. At least I couldn’t find much information. I debated between a few different choices but then found these lights. 6 lights for about $40 and they actually work and grow your little seedlings, per the reviews. I found these and decided to buy them after about 6 months of looking around.

An Indoor Greenhouse

I had no intention of buying an indoor greenhouse. Now, I just needed shelving. But I found an indoor greenhouse that had the shelving I wanted so, I thought might as well. The indoor greenhouse is just what I need. It’ll help my plants grow stronger and have a much warmer environment. I did a price check between Amazon and Menards. But my local Menards didn’t have any and they were really the same price. This greenhouse was just under $40. So $80 for lights and a greenhouse I am pretty happy.

I will say if you plan on purchasing this greenhouse, IT IS FOR INDOOR USE ONLY. I read reviews on this, talking about how the shelving and the wheels were not for outdoor use. Since the listing says Indoor Greenhouse then you should know. But I didn’t want to be recommending something and you not know the full story. It moves around just to find inside on the wheels. The shelves are plenty sturdy for seed trays.

My favorite thing about this greenhouse is that setting it up was so easy! 20 minutes and I had it all set up! NO TOOLS ARE REQUIRED! You just pop it all into place and zip-tie the shelves to the frame. It comes with everything you need.

My dream is to have a beautiful outdoor greenhouse where I can consistently grow all year round. Not just in my backyard but at Roost Eleven Eighteens’ storefront. That dream might be a little ways away, so this indoor greenhouse will do, for now! 🙂

I will keep you updated on my seed journey this year and everything I start to plant. I still have a couple of weeks yet until I even can start any seeds!
