I love to Shop at Small Businesses

Small Businesses

I didn’t really talk much about Christmas shopping here at Roost Eleven Eighteen. Christmas week was so hectic! I am not one to buy gifts for every single person I know or my entire family. We just don’t do that. For my side, we just do a gift exchange us girls don’t get any extra gifts from our parents which is fine but we don’t do extra gifts other than the gift exchange.

On Dustins’ dad’s side, we just do a gift exchange. Then on Dustins’ mom’s side, his mom and stepdad get us adult kids a gift card this year which worked out nice for our bathroom remodel. We did a small little gift exchange for our Christmas party and then Dustin and I each had a gift to provide for my side. We didn’t go to his dads’ side on Christmas due to his moms’ being on the same day and time. I also got my really good friend, Maurissa, a cute gift.

All the Shopping

If you have a husband like mine, then you do all the shopping and wrapping for Christmas gifts like I do. I am not complaining, I love picking out gifts for people and wrapping. We don’t really give each other gifts. We just always think we could put that money towards something else. The last couple of years has been for the house. So for the gift exchange, Dustin and I got my two younger sisters. My youngest sister has been asking for a tie banket from me well forever. So since I finally got her, that’s what she got. I bought the material from Joann Fabric 2 yards for each color I got and I spent just about $20 for the blanket. It took me about an hour and a half to make.

The Perfect Gifts

For my other sister and my friend Maurissa, I stopped at our local small shop downtown that carries all kinds of local small business products! I love having a place downtown to have access to a lot of small businesses in one place. For my sister, I gave her a Cranberry Chocolate Cookie Mic and a Chocolate Pancake Mix from Cassie’s Country Cupboard. I also bought a Vanilla Chestnut candle from Southern Raised Northern Made. The candle smells amazing! Both businesses have shipping options available. For Maurissa, she also got a cookie and pancake mix from Cassie’s Country Cupboard. I also got her some coffee from Convoy Road Coffee Roasters. She also got some locally made wax melts. I wish I knew the name of the girl that makes them. I was just told from the local store that it was a local woman who makes them.

My sisters small business gift

I was first introduced to Cassie’s Country Cupboard at the local farmers market this last year. Everything I have tried from her, I love! I am patiently waiting until I see her make a post about her restocking her Cappucino Muffin mix! Seriously, they are so good! Cassie focuses on healthy choices with convenience. I love that!

The owner of Southern Raised Northern Made, Emily, is a friend of mine, and she has started a new business. I think she has been making products for a while but she gave her brand a new name and a new look. She makes candles and wax melts always, then I know she is making shirts, personalized cute towels, and tote bags sometimes too. I look forward to watching her small business flourish!

Supporting your neighbors dream

If you are looking to start shopping small and local businesses near you, a great place to start would be your downtown area in your town/city! I know a lot of towns/cities have local shops in their downtown areas. Another great place would be your local farmers’ market! Both are great places to start finding local, small businesses. It feels great knowing you are contributing to your neighbors’ dream!

I am not sponsored-just wanting to share some great small businesses with great products!
